Challenge Description

For this design challenge, you're tasked with designing a business card for a freelance designer. You can use Photoshop or Illustrator.

Watch the video above for instructions on how you can go about designing this business card in terms of document setup for PS / Illustrator. It will also show you how to use the required business card mockup to present the design.

The following information must be present on the business card design:

  • John Doe (or whatever name you choose)
  • Freelance Designer
  • 555-555-1234
  • john@doe.com (you can make up an email)
  • "Specializing in Web, UI and Print Design"

Other Requirements:

  • You must present your design WITH THIS PHOTOSHOP MOCKUP -> DOWNLOAD HERE. (Instructions on how to use it are shown in the video above). Your submission will be deleted if it does not use this mockup.

  • Less is more! Simple is better! Keep things simple as opposed to complex.

  • You can submit multiple entries, but please make sure they're quite different from each other - not just small changes.

  • Have fun.

Good luck!

The lack of white space on the margines is almost always a no-go for any type of print-related project. Especially when it's type that's dead-set against the edge of a card. You want people to be able to easily read your name and other information. Pushing it right up against the edge of the medium isn't a good idea! Thanks!

The "John Doe" + "Specializes in.." area is lacking. The "Specializes in" is way too small, so it's very difficult to read. The italicized "contact info" type doesn't quite fit with the regular type beneath it. I would get rid of that label and the line beneath it. Thanks!

I made an account just to enter into this.

I may not win, in fact, I even doubt myself, but there is no harm in trying to enter because you never know.

I'd hope you do give feedback and help to improve, so everyone has a reason to join!

Unfortunately this is a bit difficult to read, especially where it has "Freelance Designer" and "Specializies...", there's not enough contrast there. The background needs to not stand out as much. Thanks!

One problem here is the size of "Freelance Designer", that needs to be made quite a bit bigger! Other than that, good entry. Thanks.

I tried to keep it as simple as possible. The bird is from the freelancer.com website and I just converted the colors to stay in the same palette color.

Solid entry. Not much wrong with this one! Thanks Mr. Mungus.

First time ever trying a business card design. Sorry about the memes. Hope it's not too bad :x

Also, your site wouldn't let me upload something more than 1500 kb so I had to scale it down a bit. Hope that won't be an issue.

I worry that the contact information is too much of an after thought, and people may not even look at it, or have a hard time seeing it. Also the "freelance designer" is a bit too close to your name, need more white space there. Thanks for the entry.

Great entry. Not too much negative to say about this.

First design, I have almost no experience in design.
The illustration left came from www.freepik.com.

Not bad, but there's some issues in terms of "visual hierarchy". You've sort of clumped together all of the content on the bottom right and it's not separated very well. Other than that, good entry!

Hey I had a problem in aligning it the mockup hence it's slightly weird on the edges.

Great design, but the biggest downside is versatility (readability would fall in that category). It's very, very hard to read such small type. The "FREELANCE DESIGNER" is barely legible, as well as contact info. Enlarge those, and you'll have a really solid card. Thanks.

My first Entry for a Design Challenge so far, because I love modern/clean buisness designs! Hope you like it! (Edit: The Mockup size is to big to upload [max. 1800px width] so its blurry)
